” “What is it,” asked the teacher, “that makes a story good or bad, happy or sad? What if I told you the story of a man hated by his own family, sold into slavery, taken to a foreign land, thrown into a prison for a crime he didn’t commit and forgotten by man and it seems by God. What kind of story would you say it is?”

“A sad story. A story of injustice and oppression… a tragedy.”

“But the story is from the Book of Genesis. And the man is Joseph. And He will end up being released from prison, given a position of great honor, saving Egypt from famine, and being reconciled to his family.

“Now would you still say the story is sad and tragic?”

“No. I would say the story is one of triumph.”

“And you still would be right,” he said. “The parts of a story are not all of equal weight. A happy story with a tragic end is not a happy story, but a triumphant one. You can never judge a story by its beginning or middle, or by any of its parts before its ending. It is the ending of the Story that determines everything that went before it. Always remember that. The nature of the story is determined by the end… so too the story of your life. You can never judge your story by your current circumstances or problems. And as long as you’re on earth, you haven’t seen the end of the story.”

“So then one can never know what kind of story you’re in.”

“Not so,” said the teacher. “If you’re a child of God, the end of the story is revealed.” “Which is…”

“Victory, restoration, triumph, blessing, joy, and glory. And it is that end that makes your life a good story, a wonderful story. Therefore, when you look at your life, see everything in the light of that ending… every problem, every defeat, every sorrow, every failure, every evil… they’re only the components of a story of triumph and glory. Fix your eyes on the end of the story. And press on to that end. For it is that end that makes your story and your life … a great one.”

The Mission: what you’re going through today or in your life, believe, look to, and live in confidence to the end of the story.

The End of the Story

Soli Deo Gloria!

Comment:

What is the length of this life, the struggle in the flesh, relative to eternity. Let’s say we live 100 years. 100 years divided by eternity is mathematically the limit -0-. It is nothing, relatively speaking: a mere breath! Yet in this life, we have opportunities that we won’t have in heaven: 1) To witness to lost souls. 2). To share in His sufferings, to His glory! It’s a closing window of unfathomable opportunity. So, God forbid that we should let it pass by, sitting on the sofa, waiting for the rapture.

All of these Bible verses in this devotion are rich, imagine that! :

Job 42:10:17, the close of the Book – “God Restores Job”. Here is an excerpt commentary from “The Apologetics Study Bible”:

“42:7-17 … Yet in the end God told them: “You have not spoken the truth about Me, as My servant Jb has (v. 7). This sounds odd, since the friends’ arguments sounded completely orthodox” in terms of the Bible’s general view of God’s punishment of the guilty. What they failed to do — and which Job did — was to deal directly with God about the issue instead of just talking about Him. They felt they had to defend God, while Job “dared” God to speak for Himself — because God needs no defense.”

Luke 24: 46-53 – Completing the section : “The Reality of the Risen Jesus” and the end of the Book of Luke: “The Ascension of Jesus”, carrying on into the Book of Acts, as he recorded the early history of the Spirit empowered church. (The “Comforter” that Jesus promised to his disciples.)

“But thanks be to God, who always puts us on display in Christ, and spreads through us in every place the scent of knowing Him.” Hebrews 2:14

I encourage y’all to read through the entire section – “A Ministry of Life or Death” – verses 14 – 17. And I will share with you an excerpt Matthew Henry’s Commentary, pg. # 1829-1830 :

“III. The comfort that the apostle found, even when the gospel was not successful to the salvation of some who heard it, v. 15-17. 1. The success is different; for some are saved by it, while others perish under it. 1) Unto some it is a savor of death unto death, as men dislike an ill savor, and therefore they are blinded and hardened by it. They reject the gospel, to their ruin, even to spiritual death. (2) Unto others the gospel is a savor of life unto life. To humble and gracious souls, the preaching of the word is most delightful and profitable. As it quickened them at first, when they were dead in trespassers and sins, so it will end it eternal life…. 3…. Though many did corrupt the word of God, het the spostle’s conscience witnessed to his fidelity. His aim wa to approve himself to God; he therefore spoke and acted always as in the sight of God, and therefore in sincerity.”

The Call to Endurance: “Therefore since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us, and run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne.” Hebrews 12:2
