“From the Back Cover

A Fascinating Look at How Biblical Prophecies Paved the Way for Jesus Christ In this remarkable volume, Dr. Herbert Lockyer examines all the prophecies in Scripture concerning the promised Messiah, his ministry, and his message. From the mundane to the mystifying, you’ll get a close look at how different prophecies portrayed with stunning accuracy the coming Christ: his ancestry, his birth, his character, his death and resurrection, and more. Divided in two sections, All the Messianic Prophecies of the Bible helps you understand not only ‘Specific Messianic Prophecies, ‘ but also ‘Symbolic Messianic Prophecies.’

About the Author

Dr. Herbert Lockyer was born in London in 1886, and held pastorates in Scotland and England for 25 years before coming to the United States in 1935. In 1937 he received the honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Northwestern Evangelical Seminary. In 1955 he returned to England where he lived for many years. He then returned to the United States where he continued to devote time to the writing ministry until his death in November of 1984.”

The following excerpts – the bottom of pg # 15 through pg #17:

“The study of prophecy is obligatory for several important reasons that we are apt to forget when we say that it is a subject best left alone.

  1. The study of prophecy is imperative if we would know the mind of God. If those holy men of old spoke as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit which means that He inspired them in what they were to say, is it not our unbounded duty to find out what they declared from and for God?
  2. The study of prophecy is essential if we are to have right perspective of history. Whether we admit it or not, these are days heavy with prophetic significance and we cannot have an understanding of our times and an inner grasp of the crises through which we are passing unless we study God’s prophetic plan.
  3. The study of prophecy imparts the note of authority into preaching, making it living and vital. Prophecy, any phase of it, is a part of the divine revelation, and witness for Christ is impoverished if the prophetic aspect of truth is neglected… Although we may not be prophets in the sense that Isaiah and Jeremiah were, we can speak as from God, and for God, as they did.”C.

“The Credentials of Prophecy

Prophesy is the diapason of the Bible – its great, dominate note from Genesis to Revelation. Then it must not be forgotten that the precious promises of God shine through the Scriptures as prophecies, as well as all the other predictive passages, and that no promise of His can possibly fail. Scriptural prophecy shares in the Bible’s infallibility. “Prophecy came not in old time by the will of man; but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost” (II Peter 1:21)… Peter is not giving us a comparison between the prophecies of the Old Testament and those of the New Testament, but he is proving that the former have been confirmed in the later in the person and word of Christ, and therefore are to be relied on….”

“Dealing with the Prophetic Element in Scripture, A.T. Pierson observes that

This is one of the seven elements which together constitute the whole body of the Word of God, namely, History, Biography, Prophecy, Ethics, Devotion, Messianic Revelation, and Scriptural Guidance. This prophetic element pervades all the rest. It is the eye of Scripture, with supernatural vision — backlight, insight, and foresight, or power to see into the past, present, and future. It is therefore, the miracle of utterance, as other miracles are wonders of power, the evinces omniscience, as they do omnipotence, thus reflecting the image of God.”

…

“In Pierson’s God’s Living Oracles, this renowned Bible scholar says that there are

Over 300 predictions about the Messiah in the Old Testament. According to the law of probability, the chance of their coming true is represented by a fraction whose numerator is one, and the denominator eighty-four followed by nearly one hundred ciphers. One might almost as well expect by accident to dip up any one particular drop out of the ocean as to expect so many prophets rays to converge by chance upon one man, in one place, at one time. God has put especially upon these prophecies as to His Son, the stamp of absolute verity and indisputable certainty, so that we may know whom we believe. Mistakes in so solemn a matter are fatal and God meant that none should be possible.”

“The following prophecy excerpts are on pg. #21, concluding the introduction:

“Schaff, the renowned church historian, says of Christ:

He is the centre and turning point not only of chronology, but of all history, and the key to all its mysteries. Around Him, as the Sun of the moral universe, revolve at their several distances all nations and all important events in the religious life of the world; and all must, directly or indirectly, consciously or unconsciously, contribute to glory His name and advance His cause. The history of mankind before His birth must be viewed as a preparation for His coming, and the history after His birth as a gradual diffusion of His spirit and progress of His kingdom.

…

Dr. A.T. Pierson, who affirmed that there are over 300 prophecies relating to Christ, reminds us that there are three canons by which all true prophecy can be tested.

  1. It must be such an unveiling of the future that no mere human foresight or wisdom could have guessed it.
  2. The prediction must deal in sufficient details to exclude shrewd guesswork.
  3. There must be such lapse of time between the prophecy and the fulfillment as precludes the agency of the prophet himself in effecting or affecting the result.

Judged by these principles, all the messianic prophecies are shown to be genuine, and their value as evidence is beyond serious challenge. “There failed not aught of any good thing which the Lord had spoken … ; all came to pass” (Joshua 21:35). Further, such a prayerful , diligent study of prophecy ought to lead us to into a fuller comprehension of the divine mind and will, and a richer devotion to Him whose glory is the culmination of all prophecy – the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Herbert lockers discovery through his writing just all the more proves the existence of God , over 300 prophesies fulfilled. Reflects absolute logical consistency with His existence. What better evidence than this do u need to prove Gods existance.
