Whoa, a new discovery – Keli & Delitzch Old Testament commentary! What a find! This one comes highly recommended, particularly for long established life long learners in Biblical studies. Their commentary includes quite a few Jewish words to enrich the commentary that much further.

And this will take you directly to Isaiah 7, allowing you to toggle forward, chapter by chapter:

A prior posting is “06/15/2024” , if you want to search key to it. I still heartily recommend J. Alec Motyer’s book “Isaiah” commentary. I will be using it as well in this 12 week friday study through the Book of Isaiah. A joyful note – The Book of Isaiah is like taking a drink of water from a fire hose. It will take you back and forth from Isaiah’s day to end times prophecy. Just a short excerpt here from Motyer’s book – pg. 18 under “(a) History and faith:

“Isaiah is the Paul of the Old Testament in his teaching that faith in God’s promises is the single most important reality for the Lord’s people; this is the heart of chapters 1 – 37. He is the ‘Hebrews’ of the Old Testament in his proposal of faith as the sustaining strength of the Lord’s people in life’s dark days: this is the heart of chapters 38 – 55. He is also the James of the Old Testament in his insistence that ‘faith works’, proving itself in obedience: thus chapters 56 – 66. Behind all this lies history through which he lived and future events as he envisaged them.”

Soli Deo Gloria!

Our prayers and fellowship off our study is open but here are some possible fellowship generator questions throughout our year:

  • What  does the text reveal about God’s character?
  • How has this reading generated prayer for you and/or us?
  • What themes stand out to you in this bible study?
  • How does our reading fit into the bigger picture (creation, the fall, restoration, etc.)?
  • What verse(s) jumped out at you like never before?  Is it explainable at this point?
  • Do you have any questions you would like to put before the group as to how to interpret any particular verse(s)  in our reading.  Let scripture testify to scripture: Share with us where you sense contradiction between passages elsewhere.
  • What did you find convicting and inspiring at the same time?  Share with us how the Spirit of God is working within you as a messenger, both within  and outside of our fellowship group.
  • Share with the group how our study is calling or confirming to you a new mission to glorify God in our times.

And/Or: Thoughts? / Reflections?
