SHORT- SUMMARY on The Deviations in today’s Christian society.
This was a sharing I made to my Bible study group this past week….
1. Prosperity Gospel
This reduces Christianity to material wealth and personal success, turning Jesus into a means of obtaining earthly blessings. It often promotes positive confession and giving in exchange for blessings.
Matthew 6:24 says how you cannot serve God and money.
2. Moralism
Suggests that Christ’s work plus human performance can earn one God’s favour and eternal life. Not true! good works are the fruit of salvation, not the price of it
Galatians 2:21
“ If righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”
3. Individualistic Interpretation– also known as solo scriptura in my Theo lessons.
Here we have the aspect of people Interprete Scripture according to personal agendas, ignoring context, but we see that the historical understanding, and the wisdom of the Christian community helps us better understands Gods special revelation.
Ephesians 4:14. Not to be tossed around by waves of doctrine….
Blessings!

Thanks Mike! Indeed, three big heresy traps that are far too common! Prosperity gospel defies: “We are in the world, but not of the world.” / Moralism – Saved through faith alone by God’s grace. / Individualistic Interpretation – If self professed christians isolate themselves, they leave themselves open to this trap from the devil. We arm up through prayer and bible study in groups. Expository preaching from the pulpit fights against this – “Let scripture testify to scripture.” Drawing broad individualistic interpretation from single verses is dangerous.
As an illustration- We hear within the church body: “Do not judge me, lest you be judged.” in Matthew. But that verse is meant for “future” christians. Paul notes in 1 Corinthians 5:12 13: “For what is it to me to judge outsiders? Do you not judge those who are inside? But God judges outsiders. Put away the evil person from among yourselves.” That eludes to some serious “judgement” within the church. So, in group prayer , keeping each other accountable, we become stronger against the evil one and his minions. Blessings!
